Having had such a successful time in our April trip to The Gambia with a pleasingly diverse group of people who work in primary schools, namely three heads, two deputies, 9 class teachers, 1 learning assistant, a chair of governors, and PTA rep. The group gelled well together and everybody joined in with the teaching activities whether it was the phonics workshop for 50 teachers, the nursery activities for some 150 tiny children or sharing a creative writing workshop with 80 undergraduate teacher trainers. The cultural activities were also well recieved and included impromptu dancing at the women’s horticultural project in Makumbuya, the wrestling at Paradise beach or the cruising on mangraove swamp at Makusutu. The arts and craft as well as the benechin went down very well in Fatou’s compound. The next CPD course will take place in the Autumn term with the week in The Gambia scheduled for 26 November.
