Description
These are made from recycled metal and found all over the Gambia (and indeed many other parts of West Africa). They come in various shapes and sizes, but are mainly either round or square. There are made by people working in the market. They have a tray for charcoal (some people may use wood but this not so efficient) and an opening so that the flow of air can be regulated. They are designed to be more effective than open fires to try reduce the demand for firewood and also to reduce the amount of smoke released.
